Majorcan Ikat Bucket Bag

Majorcan Ikat Bucket Bag

€225.00

Supported by S4fashion and the European Commission, the bag is the result of a research project on European craft traditions. The project focused on two textile techniques that are still practiced in the European context: ikat textiles produced on 19th century hand-operated looms in the island of Majorca, Spain; and hand-marbling on silk that is practiced artisanally in Italy.

Ikat- dyed textiles are found across the world, from Central Asia to Latin America. In Majorca, Spain, a few workshops still tie and dye linen and cotton yarns and weave them on 19th century hand-operated looms creating those distinctive blurred and jagged ikat patterns. The bag’s inner lining is made of silk woven and meticulously hand-marbled in Trieste, Italy.

The drawstrings’ casing is made of leather, available in vibrant hues of purple or turquoise.

The bag measures 12cm in width and 20 cm in length. We have a few bags in stock and can make additional ones as made-to-order within two weeks.
